Smokey Robinson returns to Fraze for the first time since 2002. Once pronounced by Bob Dylan as America’s “greatest living poet,” acclaimed singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson’s career spans over 4 decades of hits. He has received numerous awards including the Grammy Living Legend Award, NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award, Honorary Doctorate (Howard University), Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts Award from the President of the United States. He has also been inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Robinson founded The Miracles while still in high school. Their single of Robinson’s “Shop Around” became Motown’s first #1 hit on the R&B singles chart. In the years following, Robinson continued to pen hits for the group including “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me,” “Ooo Baby Baby,” “The Tracks of My Tears,” “Going to a Go-Go,” “More Love,” “Tears of a Clown” (co-written with Stevie Wonder), and “I Second That Emotion.”

The Miracles dominated the R&B scene throughout the 1960’s and early 70’s and Robinson became Vice President of Motown Records serving as in-house producer, talent scout and songwriter. In addition to writing hits for the Miracles, Robinson wrote and produced hits for other Motown greats including The Temptations, Mary Wells, Brenda Holloway, Marvin Gaye and others. “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” “My Girl,” “Get Ready,” “You Beat Me to the Punch,” “Don’t Mess with Bill,” “Ain’t That Peculiar,” and “My Guy” are just a few of his songwriting triumphs during those years.

He later turned to a solo career where he continued his tradition of hitmaking with “Just to See Her,” “Quiet Storm,” “Cruisin’,” and “Being with You,” among others.

During the course of his 50-year career in music, Robinson has accumulated more than 4,000 songs to his credit and continues to thrill sold-out audiences around the world with his high tenor voice, impeccable timing, and profound sense of lyric. Never resting on his laurels, Smokey Robinson remains a beloved icon in our musical heritage.

Groove Doctor

Groove Doctor gets your blood pumping and fills the dance floor with the area’s most unique lineup of Rock, Funk, Blues, and Country – classic covers from AC/DC to Bon Jovi, from Wild Cherry to ZZ Top, and everything – and we mean everything – in between.

Groove Doctor has been making musical house calls since 2003 (though our musicians have been rocking for 20-plus years in other bands). Chip on bass and Joey on lead guitar have been rockin’ together since they were kids. They provide the voices for our raspy, hard-edge rock tunes! Tom adds a whole lotta soul with a pure, smooth croonin’ voice with a country twist mixed in. Doug holds down rhythm guitar and harmonica and wears the funky hats and the business pants of the group. Eric slams the skins keeping the train on the tracks. And Kelle adds much needed beauty, female vocals and mixes it in dance with the crowd!

Amazing vocals. Classic hits. Blazing guitars. Crowd participation. Energy beyond belief. All aimed at throwing one great party. Groove Doctor is your universal musical health care prescription…get a checkup today!

Legendary coach Bob Knight presents a chance for you to gain insight into the career events that made him one of the greatest coaches to ever teach the game of basketball. From his early coaching years at West Point to his record setting years as head coach for the Indiana Hoosiers, and from his Olympic gold medal win to his final coaching years at Texas Tech, you’ll hear about the trials and triumphs Bob Knight faced during his career. He’ll discuss the career events that made an impact on his life, his mentors, and the students he has taught through his years of coaching.

Bob Knight is known as one of college basketball’s most successful and innovative coaches, having perfected and popularized the motion offense. Dubbed “The General,” Knight won 902 NCAA Division I men’s college basketball games. He received the National Coach of the Year honor four times and the Big Ten Coach of the Year honor six times. In 1984, he coached the USA’s men’s Olympic team to a gold medal, becoming one of only three basketball coaches to win and NCAA title, NIT title, and an Olympic gold medal.

In 2008, Knight joined ESPN as a men’s college basketball studio analyst during Championship Week and for coverage of the NCAA Tournament. For the 2008–09 season, he joined ESPN as a part-time color commentator as well as continuing his studio analyst duties.

Don’t miss this legendary basketball coach as he observes how the sport of basketball has evolved on and off the court. If you love basketball, you won’t want to miss Bob Knight at Fraze this summer!
