Smokey Robinson returns to Fraze for the first time since 2002. Once pronounced by Bob Dylan as America’s “greatest living poet,” acclaimed singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson’s career spans over 4 decades of hits. He has received numerous awards including the Grammy Living Legend Award, NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award, Honorary Doctorate (Howard University), Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts Award from the President of the United States. He has also been inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Robinson founded The Miracles while still in high school. Their single of Robinson’s “Shop Around” became Motown’s first #1 hit on the R&B singles chart. In the years following, Robinson continued to pen hits for the group including “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me,” “Ooo Baby Baby,” “The Tracks of My Tears,” “Going to a Go-Go,” “More Love,” “Tears of a Clown” (co-written with Stevie Wonder), and “I Second That Emotion.”

The Miracles dominated the R&B scene throughout the 1960’s and early 70’s and Robinson became Vice President of Motown Records serving as in-house producer, talent scout and songwriter. In addition to writing hits for the Miracles, Robinson wrote and produced hits for other Motown greats including The Temptations, Mary Wells, Brenda Holloway, Marvin Gaye and others. “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” “My Girl,” “Get Ready,” “You Beat Me to the Punch,” “Don’t Mess with Bill,” “Ain’t That Peculiar,” and “My Guy” are just a few of his songwriting triumphs during those years.

He later turned to a solo career where he continued his tradition of hitmaking with “Just to See Her,” “Quiet Storm,” “Cruisin’,” and “Being with You,” among others.

During the course of his 50-year career in music, Robinson has accumulated more than 4,000 songs to his credit and continues to thrill sold-out audiences around the world with his high tenor voice, impeccable timing, and profound sense of lyric. Never resting on his laurels, Smokey Robinson remains a beloved icon in our musical heritage.

Groove Doctor

Groove Doctor gets your blood pumping and fills the dance floor with the area’s most unique lineup of Rock, Funk, Blues, and Country – classic covers from AC/DC to Bon Jovi, from Wild Cherry to ZZ Top, and everything – and we mean everything – in between.

Groove Doctor has been making musical house calls since 2003 (though our musicians have been rocking for 20-plus years in other bands). Chip on bass and Joey on lead guitar have been rockin’ together since they were kids. They provide the voices for our raspy, hard-edge rock tunes! Tom adds a whole lotta soul with a pure, smooth croonin’ voice with a country twist mixed in. Doug holds down rhythm guitar and harmonica and wears the funky hats and the business pants of the group. Eric slams the skins keeping the train on the tracks. And Kelle adds much needed beauty, female vocals and mixes it in dance with the crowd!

Amazing vocals. Classic hits. Blazing guitars. Crowd participation. Energy beyond belief. All aimed at throwing one great party. Groove Doctor is your universal musical health care prescription…get a checkup today!

Legendary coach Bob Knight presents a chance for you to gain insight into the career events that made him one of the greatest coaches to ever teach the game of basketball. From his early coaching years at West Point to his record setting years as head coach for the Indiana Hoosiers, and from his Olympic gold medal win to his final coaching years at Texas Tech, you’ll hear about the trials and triumphs Bob Knight faced during his career. He’ll discuss the career events that made an impact on his life, his mentors, and the students he has taught through his years of coaching.

Bob Knight is known as one of college basketball’s most successful and innovative coaches, having perfected and popularized the motion offense. Dubbed “The General,” Knight won 902 NCAA Division I men’s college basketball games. He received the National Coach of the Year honor four times and the Big Ten Coach of the Year honor six times. In 1984, he coached the USA’s men’s Olympic team to a gold medal, becoming one of only three basketball coaches to win and NCAA title, NIT title, and an Olympic gold medal.

In 2008, Knight joined ESPN as a men’s college basketball studio analyst during Championship Week and for coverage of the NCAA Tournament. For the 2008–09 season, he joined ESPN as a part-time color commentator as well as continuing his studio analyst duties.

Don’t miss this legendary basketball coach as he observes how the sport of basketball has evolved on and off the court. If you love basketball, you won’t want to miss Bob Knight at Fraze this summer!

GAVIN DEGRAW
Beloved by fans for his blue-eyed soul vocals, freewheeling melodies, and earthy charm, singer, songwriter, and musician Gavin DeGraw has enjoyed success since breaking through in 2003 with his debut album, Chariot, which sold over a million copies, earned platinum certification, and yielded three hit singles: “I Don’t Want To Be,” “Follow Through,” and the title-track, “Chariot.” He followed that up with his self-titled second album, which debuted at No. 1 on the digital sales chart and at No. 7 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart in 2008, earning Gavin his first Top 10 album and spawning the hit singles “In Love With A Girl” and the gold-certified “We Belong Together.” After releasing 2009’s Free, a gift to die-hard fans clamoring for recorded versions of his live favorites, Gavin decided it was time to shake things up. “Not only do I love a challenge, but I also wanted something new to sing,” Gavin explains. “I’ve listened to my favorite songs 5,000 times, and I love them, but sometimes it’s hard to go home and put on that album and listen to it for the five thousand and first time. I needed to write something I found interesting both melodically and rhythmically and that meant stepping outside my wheelhouse.”

Gavin took a departure from his usual way of working, enlisting co-writers for the first time, such as Tedder, who co-wrote and produced the album’s vigorous first single “Not Over You,” and its title track “Sweeter,” as well as Andrew Frampton, who has worked with The Script and Natasha Bedingfield. “Co-writing with other people changed everything for me,” Gavin says. “Not only did it open my mind to new ideas, but it changed the way I wrote on my own. Playing all these different styles with other musicians led me to think about things differently when I was working by myself. I was able to tap into things I do live, dabbling with some of that late ’60s, early ’70s R&B stuff, and record all the styles of music that I like and put them on one album. It was great to take the leash off and experiment. Although it doesn’t stray too far from what I’ve done, I think Sweeter is the first album I’ve made that has caught my true sound, and that was the result of taking risks.”

Fans love his live shows and his new album is sure heighten the experience. See Gavin DeGraw this summer at Fraze and sing along to the mantra, “I don’t wanna be anything other than me.” It’s a universal message for all!

COLBIE CAILLAT
Armed simply with her dusky vocals and acoustic guitar, Colbie Caillat and her homespun music continue to resonate with listeners and win new fans. Little more than a year after the release of her nearly double platinum debut album CoCo, Caillat has so quickly made such an enduring impact that USA Today declared the California girl a vital part of “a new wave of troubadours luring fans of all ages into a peaceful, easy feeling.” The national newspaper puts her in the company of other platinum plus artists like Sara Bareilles, Caillat’s musical hero Jack Johnson, and her good friend and duet partner, Jason Mraz.

Coco debuted at No. 5 and raced its way past the multi-Platinum barrier. Her first single, “Bubbly,” caught a generation’s imagination and has become one of the best-selling digital tracks of all time. Billboard took note by naming Caillat its Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Fittingly, Breakthrough, broke at No. 1 and was honored with two Grammy nominations; that same year, Colbie won two Grammys for her collaborations with Jason Mraz and Taylor Swift. She has sung the national anthem on the kickoff to the 2011 NFL season and performed at the Nobel Peace Concert in Oslo. She and her original music have been featured in commercials for cotton and in ABC Family Channel’s “25 Days of Christmas,” whose theme song she wrote and arranged. Her embrace has stretched to include work for honorable causes including the Surfrider Foundation, Save the Music and the Humane Society, for which she has recently become a spokesperson.

Her new album All of You is a more advanced version of the singer-songwriter. Colbie explains, “I like to keep my music acoustic, sunny and optimistic. These songs still have the bright feeling and California vibe I love. But they’re also songs that I write from my experiences.” Tracks like “Brighter Than the Sun,” “Shadow,” and “I Do,” are sure to keep fans wanting more. Don’t miss this young artist as she invites you to relax and enjoy the sunshine this summer at Fraze!

The Bee Gees have been captivating audiences for more than five decades with their unique vocal sound, while remaining current through all eras of contemporary music. Because of their distinct and blended harmonies, the brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb have offered an impossible challenge to those who would pay them homage… until now.

Stayin’ Alive with the vocal match of Tony Mattina, Todd Sharman and George Manz creates a realistic sense of hearing and experiencing the brothers’ Gibb live in concert. Stayin’ Alive offers to their audiences the songs and sights of a full Bee Gees play list, singing blockbusters such as “Night Fever,” “Jive Talkin’,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” “You Should be Dancing,” “Nights on Broadway,” and “Stayin’ Alive.” In addition, they perform softer poetic ballads such as “I Started a Joke,” “Massachusetts,” “Fanny be Tender,” “Words,” and “To Love Somebody,” among other great hits.

Stayin’ Alive is the largest and most definitive production of its kind, offering big screen video clips, photos and dazzling imagery. Stayin’ Alive has played intimate settings as a six-piece band and huge venues with a 62-piece orchestra. Stayin’ Alive is the quintessential tribute band to the Bee Gees, capturing the excitement of live performance and the tender subtleties of the human voice!

The Hoskins Family
There aren’t many voices out there that leave you breathless. Angie Hoskins Aldridge possesses one of those rare voices. Surrounded by her parents Rick, Reva and friend Josh Akers, Angie and The Hoskins Family have recorded some of the most memorable songs in recent years. Some of their chart-topping songs include, “Joyful Morning”, “Safe Thus Far”, “When The Savior Wipes The Tears From Our Eyes”, “Written In Heaven” and “Places To Go People To See”. Their next Daywind project: It’s Over…Let Eternity Begin, continues this great song tradition with the title cut, “It’s Over”. Promoters and pastors all across the country have quickly recognized the potential found in the Hoskins Family. They appear on many of the major events in Gospel Music such as Gospel Music Television’s World Premier, the National Quartet Convention, Dollywood, Branson’s Silver Dollar City, Gaither Homecoming Tours, INSP, TBN, and more!

The Penny Loafers
In the time the Penny Loafers have been together, they have gained a loyal following, appealing to young and old alike through a blend of musical styles and tight, a cappella harmonies. From 50’s doo-wop to contemporary gospel, the Penny Loafers’ repertoire includes a healthy dose of original material and fresh arrangements of traditional favorites. Add some impressive vocal calisthenics and you have the “Loafer Style,” a unique, crowd-pleasing sound that has frequently earned the Penny Loafers standing ovations at their performances.

In 2010, the group celebrated 25 years of loafin’ together. There have been some membership changes since that first performance, but the foursome of Alan Pike (bass), Larry Nichols (baritone), Kevin Slemp (2nd tenor), and Michael Hunt (1st tenor) have been singing together since 1994.

In the year 1970 four young musicians in the South Bay of Los Angeles came together to create an invigorating style of music that explored the possibilities of Progressive, Classical, and World influences yet rooted with the soul of the Blues and R+B. A new sound was defined and recognized as Ambrosia.

In it’s brief recording history Ambrosia garnered five Grammy nominations, five hit singles, heavy FM airplay, and the admiration and respect of the musical community. All this in addition to sold out concerts around the world. Some of their hits include “How Much I Feel,” “You’re the Only Woman,” “Biggest Part of Me,” “Holdin’ On To Yesterday,” and “Nice, Nice, Very Nice.”

Today the band is more alive than ever with three of the original four members intact – Joe Puerta, Burleigh Drummond, Christopher North – and the addition of the very talented and inspiring Rick Cowling on vocals, keyboards, and acoustic guitar, and Doug Jackson on electric guitar.

Returning to Fraze for the first time since their last performance in 2005, these sensational pop artists are “Hungry Like the Wolf,” for more concerts at Fraze! The stats on Duran Duran are remarkable: a total of over 80 million records sold, 18 American hit singles, 30 UK top 30 tunes, and a global presence which guarantees them huge concert audiences on five continents. More remarkable still is the way they have achieved this, fusing pop music, art and fashion with a unique sense of style and confidence. Classic chart-toppers such as “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Rio” and “Save A Prayer” turned Duran’s second album Rio multi-platinum worldwide.

Duran Duran continued to make music in the 90s despite several line up changes. Their albums spawned the award winning smash “Ordinary World” and its equally acclaimed follow-up “Come Undone.”

The group reunited in 2001 with the original line-up to record their first album together since the 80s. The two-year world tour, which accompanied the release of Astronaut, was a smash. This tour served as a reminder that the band remained a fighting force with an incredible back catalogue, an awareness that led to them being honored with no fewer than five prestigious “Lifetime Achievement” awards in the space of two years. Between 2004 and 2006 Duran Duran’s extraordinary creative longevity was recognized by the MTV Video Music Awards, the BRIT’S, the Ivor Novello’s, the Spanish music industry Ondas and Q Magazine’s annual Q Awards.

With their new record All You Need Is Now completed, the band’s future has never looked brighter. Their latest single, “Girl Panic!” celebrates the groups’ contributions to the art of the music video. Having outlived most of their contemporaries, they have nothing left to prove and everything to play for. They are uniquely Duran Duran.

Do you – you! – feel like we do about Peter Frampton? If so, then you can’t wait for Frampton’s return to Fraze since his last visit in 2007. Grammy winner Frampton is performing only 6 shows this summer, making one of the stops at Fraze Pavilion. In 2011, his successful world tour celebrated the 35th Anniversary of Peter Frampton’s multi-platinum selling live album Frampton Comes Alive!.

Frampton remains one of the most celebrated artists and guitarists in rock history. At 16, he was lead singer and guitarist for British teen band The Herd. At 18, he co-founded one of the first super groups, seminal rock act Humble Pie. His fifth solo album, the electrifying Frampton Comes Alive!, is one of the top-selling live records of all time.
